I remember too well my first venture! It can be quite daunting. It was hot and confusing and it took me ages to find or not find the books I needed. I also quickly realised that I should have given myself the time in which to relax in the library.
A FEW TIPS:
- It is really, really important to give yourself plenty of time to get to know your library. Go around, find the areas you will need for your studies. Do it in your own time so that you are not under pressure.
- Think ahead, if there are books you need, look for them early. If there only a few copies you may find you have to wait when you do need them.
- Many libraries provide introductory sessions to show one how to get the best from your library.
- Spend time exploring and getting used to using your library website page. There are so many resources available and it is so beneficial to familiarise yourself before you are preparing for projects or essays.
How did you get on?
I include a video on U.C.D Library with Prof D. Ferriter speaking about his use of the library and the variety of sources made available by the library .

I never really thought about the library this way. I think it is a good point about taking time.
Thanks!

Thanks so much for your comment Claire. Good luck in the library, it does make such a difference when you can tackle your book list in comfort.
